Synopsis

The Chema Cobo Exhibition Hall at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Málaga, presents *Y así la espera atraviesa* (And So the Wait Passes), a project by the artist Aura Vega, co-produced by the centre in collaboration with MaF2025 (Málaga de Festival – Málaga Film Festival 2025) and the Vice-Rectorate for Culture at the University of Málaga.

A red curtain, a stage curtain, a catenary, and at the doors of a theatre: through a series of installations, we enter an audiovisual and film exhibition that transcends its own medium. The artist uses the routine of theatre seat preparation—drawn from her own experience and that of her colleagues—as a pretext to develop her artistic proposal through a deployment of cinematic media, from which emerges a poetic reflection on the time of waiting. In the context of the theatre or cinema, we wait for something to happen, for the performance to begin: when will the show start? However, moving beyond a conventional narrative, this exhibition invites us to remain attentive to the state of monotony, to persist in continuity, without major events. Let us thus observe the ceaseless stillness, the unsettling repose, a watchful anticipation that places us on the other side of the spectacle: Aura Vega leads us to contemplate how natural time shapes the paradoxical state of bodies that work whilst waiting.
